En février 1942, la brochure du père Marie-Dominique Chenu, Une école de théologie : Le Saulchoir est mise à l'Index par la Congrégation du Saint-Office. L'étude présentée ici s'attache à reconstituer la genèse de cette condamnation depuis la discrète sortie du texte en 1937. Appuyée sur des travaux antérieurs et sur toutes les sources aujourd'hui disponibles, elle montre comment une divergence légitime sur la méthode en théologie entre thomistes romains et thomistes du Saulchoir est devenue une affaire disciplinaire au détriment, non seulement du père Chenu, privé de sa charge de régent, mais de l'ensemble de la Province dominicaine de France, soumise à la rigoureuse visite apostolique du père Thomas Philippe. In February 1942, Father Marie-Dominique Chenu's pamphlet : A School of Theology : The Saulchoir was blacklisted by the Holy Sea's Congregation. The following study endeavours to uncover and chronicle the genesis of this condemnation starting with the text's discreet publication in 1937. Backed by earlier works and armed with all of today's available sources, the author shows how a legitimate difference of method in theology led to a disciplinary matter that targeted not only Father Chenu but all of the Dominican Province of France, subjected to the relentless visit of Thomas Philippe.
