Les foyers de travailleurs migrants font depuis vingt ans l'objet d'une transformation, architecturale et juridique, qui remet en cause les manières d'habiter des migrants notamment ouest-africains. Cet article s'appuie sur l'ethnographie du déménagement d'un foyer parisien pour étudier le sort des suroccupants, montrant que le traitement et les catégorisations de ces personnes « en trop », par les gestionnaires et les résidents, éclairent leurs conceptions respectives des modalités d'appartenance à ces collectifs résidentiels. Migrant workers' hostels have been undergoing an architectural and legal transformation over the last 20 years that challenges how migrants live, especially touching those from West Africa. This article uses an ethnography of the relocation of such a hostel in Paris to study the fate of its unofficial residents, showing how managers and residents' treatments and categorizations of these “extra” people shed light on their respective conceptions of belonging to these residential groups.
