| Résumé |
Au centre de cette étude se trouve une catégorie spécifique de subordonnants : celle qui
regroupe les conjonctions/locutions conjonctives introduisant une proposition subordonnée
consécutive. Notre recherche qui s'inscrit sur un axe diachronique permet de dégager la
structure morphologique du système de marqueurs consécutifs à différentes étapes dans
l'histoire de la langue française, le fonctionnement syntaxique (intégration d'un élément corrélatif,
phénomène de la dislocation) ainsi que les valeurs sémantico-logiques véhiculées par
les morphèmes disponibles. Quant à la valeur sémantique, nous nous interrogeons sur la
pertinence de l'opposition traditionnelle entre l'expression de la manière et celle de l'intensité
d'une conséquence. Des phénomènes de superposition ou de confusion de ces valeurs sémantiques
témoignent du fait que dans l'histoire de la langue l'opposition formelle entre la

The expression of consequence in diachrony: syntactical integration and semantico-pragmatic propertiesAt the center of this study is a specific category of subordinators: the one which includes
conjunctions/conjunctive expressions which introduce a consecutive subordinate clause. Our
research, which falls within a diachronic approach, allows the morphological structure of the system of consecutive markers to be distinguished at different stages of the history of the
French language, syntactical functioning (integration of a correlated element, the phenomenon
of dislocation), as well as the semantico-logical values conveyed by the available morphemes.
With regard to the semantic value, we examine the relevance of the traditional opposition
between the expression of manner and that of the intensity of a consequence. Phenomena of
superposition or confusion of the semantic values bear witness to the fact that in the history of
