L'œuvre du dominicain Charles-Louis Richard illustre de manière significative les effets de la réception des Lumières sur la littérature d'apologétique chrétienne : modification du répertoire traditionnel des défenseurs de l'autel en fonction de l'horizon d'attente du siècle ; hésitation entre l'aggiornamento et la radicalisation doctrinale qui trahit un « blocage théologique ». Entraîné sous la pression de la controverse dans un processus de rationalisation de la foi, Richard organise une riposte fondée sur l'appropriation de la rhétorique moderniste et la théâtralisation de la violence. The antiphilosophical battle in eighteenth-century Liège. Charles-Louis Richard or the involuntary propaganda The works of the Dominican Charles-Louis Richard show in a significant way the effects of the reception of the Enlightenment on Christian literature : modification of the traditional repertory of apologetics ; hesitation between aggiornamento and doctrinal radicalization indicative of a « theological deadlock ». Involved in a process of rationalization of faith under the pressure of controversy, Richard organized a counter-attack based on the appropriation of modernist rhetoric and the theatrical use of violence.
