L'emploi spatial des prépositions est considéré généralement comme leur signifié premier, à partir duquel se construisent leurs autres sens. Cette thèse est très discutée, mais cet emploi spatial n'en est pas moins ce qui est le plus immédiatement perçu par les locuteurs. D'autre part, les trois prépositions à, en, dans sont dans leurs interprétations locative et télique les plus utilisées. On montrera qu'elles forment un système ternaire, une triade. On indiquera, à partir de là, qu'elles sont organisées binairement, et obéissent alors à l'apophtegme guillaumien : On va par paire dans le champ de la préposition (Leçon, 6.10.51). En d'autres termes, elles observent des distributions de complémentarité. On montrera que cette distribution suit un régime scalaire s'appliquant aux GN spatiaux avec lesquels elles sont construites, allant du moins spécifique (en) au plus spécifique (dans). Ce système binaire basculera vers des propriétés singulières pour chacune de ces trois prépositions, dont on montrera qu'elles constituent des microsystèmes ; ce sera la dernière partie de notre étude. The spatial use of prepositions is generally considered as their first signifié, on the basis of which their other meanings are constructed. This thesis is controversial, but the spatial use is nonetheless the one that is most immediately perceived by the speakers. On the other hand, the three prepositions, à, en, dans, in their locative and telic interpretations are the most frequently used. It will be shown that they form a ternary system, a triad. On this basis, it will be pointed out that they are organised in a binary manner and obey the guillaumian apophthegm : « On va par paire dans le champ de la préposition » (Lesson, 6.10.51). In other words, they are in complementary distribution. It will be shown that this distribution follows a scalar order applying to the spatial NPs with which they are constructed, starting from the least specific (en) and ending with the most specific (dans). This binary system will reveal the singular properties of each one of these three prepositions which form, as will be shown, microsystems – this will be the last section of this study.
