Résumé anglais The aim of this article is to outline the evolution of the Swedish city. It questions the particularity of the development of the Swedish urban tissue in the general context of European and Scandinavian urban planning. The paper insists on pointing out the ambiguous role of the Swedish agglomeration, legally blurred and spatially porous in its relation to the nonurbanized areas of the “kommun”, juridically recognized administrative unit. Having taken the specific feature into consideration, the author endeavours to describe the possible balance between of aesthetics and social engagement in Swedish urban design. Is a Swedish city a result of modern or post-modern urban planning, does it remain a material illustration of the social-democratic model, or a mere place of tensions and atomized functions ? The article suggests in order to answer these interrogation, to convene the Aristotelian notion of oikos as a transposition of the metaphor of “home”, thus anihilating the border between “inside” and “outside”.
