Le Monténégro est désormais membre de l'Alliance atlantique, et peut-être l'État des Balkans occidentaux le plus avancé sur la voie de l'adhésion à l'Union européenne. Il a pu développer son ancrage régional et ses échanges avec les États voisins, au moment où ses relations avec Moscou se faisaient plus difficiles. Son identité nationale reste néanmoins fragile. Montenegro is now a member of the Atlantic alliance, and perhaps the most advanced State of western Balkans on its path to accession to the European Union. It has been able to develop its regional roots and its trade with neighbouring States, at a time when its relations with Moscow are becoming increasingly difficult. Nevertheless, its national identity remains fragile. The economy faces real difficulties, and its strong political system does little to diminish internal disputes.
