Résumé Cet article revisite la question des choix d'orientation post-obligatoires juvéniles dans l'espace des filières de l'enseignement professionnel. S'appuyant sur une enquête ethnographique réalisée dans un établissement scolaire romand, il montre qu'à cet espace différencié correspond un espace des habitus populaires au principe des choix. Ceux-ci sont structurés par une variété de principes qui distinguent les classes populaires elles-mêmes. L'originalité de cette approche consiste à articuler ces dimensions avec le travail pédagogique des agents scolaires qui, dans le cadre d'un système scolaire suisse divisé en filières très peu perméables, cherchent à ajuster les aspirations subjectives des jeunes aux chances d'insertion professionnelle telles qu'ils les perçoivent. L'enquête questionne le sens et les transformations de la culture anti-école chez les garçons, mais aussi chez certaines filles des classes populaires.‟Leaving” or ‟Staying in” Full Time School-based ProgrammesYoungsters Educational Choices, Working-Class and Vocational Training. The Case of Western SwitzerlandThis article revisit youngsters educational choices in the field of post compulsory vocational training options. Based on an ethnographical study realized in a lower-secondary school located in French speaking part of Switzerland, it shows how working class specific habitus explain these choices in different vocational training options. These habitus are shaped by a range of principles differentiating working class among themselves. The originality of this approach is to link youngsters choices with teachers' pedagogical work. In the Swiss educational system divided into different tracks with little permeability between them, they try to adjust youngsters subjective aspirations to their own perception of professional integration chances. This study raises question about the sense and change of counter-school culture among working class boys but as well among some girls.
