« Commandant » Pechkoff (1884-1966). À travers la vie et la double carrière, militaire et diplomatique, d'un homme au parcours exceptionnel, nous avons voulu montrer de quelle manière la diplomatie française s'appuie à l'occasion, fort utilement, sur ceux que l'on appelle communément les « amis de la France ». Cette appellation vague reflète pourtant une signification profonde pour celles et ceux qui la portent, sans laquelle leur vie, leurs engagements, leurs idées seraient difficilement compréhensibles. Qu'ils prennent ou non la nationalité française importe peu ; moins en tout cas que d'être attaché à la France par le cœur et par l'esprit. « Commandant » Pechkoff (1884-1966). Through the life and double career (both military and diplomatic) of an exceptional man, the article shows how French diplomacy can be usefully applied to influence what are called collectively « the foreign friends of France ». The term, though vague, has a deep significance for those who bear it, for without it their lives, ideas and commitments would be difficult to understand. Whether they take French citizenship or not is not important, less certainly than being attached to France and French in their hearts and souls.
