Les laotiens dans la guerre d'Indochine, 1945-1954
De 1945 à 1954, les forces terrestres d'Extrême-Orient (FTEO) recrutèrent de nombreux combattants laotiens pour assurer la défense du Laos et dégager des troupes pour les autres théâtres d'opérations. La reconnaissance de l'indépendance du royaume conduisit à la mise sur pied d'une armée nationale laotienne qui ne cessa de se développer jusqu'au cessez-le-feu. Les combattants laotiens ne jouissaient pas d'une grande réputation militaire mais ils firent néanmoins leur devoir dans de nombreuses circonstances. Leur encadrement resta à la charge des FTEO en dépit des efforts laotiens de formation. En réalité, seule l'aide américaine permit la constitution d'une armée nationale lao. Les laotiens dans la guerre d'Indochine, 1945-1954From 1945 to 1954, the French land forces in the Far East (FTEO) recruited many Laotian soldiers to serve for the defence of Laos and have troops ready for other military operations. Acknowledging the independence of the kingdom resulted in the foundation of a National Laotian Army which continued to grow until the cease-fire. Although Laotian soldiers did not enjoy a high military reputation, they nonetheless, on many occasions, did their duty. The « FTEO » remained in charge of their training despite Laotian efforts to take over the responsibility.
