Cet article étudie la construction d'un espace transnational des théories littéraires élaborées en France dans les années 1960 et 1970 autour du structuralisme. En repérant la production théorique développée autour de Roland Barthes et de Gérard Genette, on observe l'apparition d'instances spécifiques à la production théorique (colloques, revues, associations) qui témoignent de la manière dont elle se constitue selon des logiques propres aux espaces nationaux tout en leur opposant d'emblée des formes de reconnaissance internationale. L'émergence des théories autour d'une controverse nationale immédiatement positionnée dans un espace transnational est indissociable des espaces internationalisés dans lesquels se déploient la « nouvelle critique » et la poétique, comme des trajectoires transnationales de leurs principales figures. L'international fait également l'objet d'usages stratégiques (importation, travail d'intermédiation, contournement des disciplines nationales, fabrique d'un universel littéraire) qui font apparaître à la fois l'ampleur des circulations internationales dont les théories littéraires sont le produit et dont elles font l'objet. This article focuses on the construction of a transnational field of literary theories emerging in France in the 1960s and 1970s around structuralism. By surveying the theoretical production taking place around Roland Barthes and Gérard Genette, one observes the emergence of specific instances of theoretical production (conferences, journals, associations) that reflect the way in which this production takes shape within national spaces while at the same time building upon forms of international recognition. The emergence of theories around a national controversy that was immediately located within a transnational space cannot be separated from the internationalized spaces within which the “new criticism” and poetics were deployed, thus outlining transnational trajectories for their main authors. The strategic uses of international spaces (importation, intermediation, circumventing of national disciplines, construction of a literary universal) suggest the amplitude of the international circulations that both produced literary theories and were reflected by them.
