Daté de 2013, le dossier du numéro 41 d'Études de communication intitulé L'architecture de l'information : un concept opératoire ? semble nous ramener plus loin en arrière, à une époque où le terme « design » était encore peu usité et revêtait une acception locale. Les articles du dossier font le point sur la notion d'architecture de l'information depuis son invention par Richard Saul Wurman en 1976. S'attachant à rendre compte de son appropriation récente par les SIC, le dossier souligne son rapport à la complexité organisationnelle, à l'organisation des connaissances et au monde professionnel. Outre ses nombreux apports à la compréhension de l'éditorialisation numérique, son intérêt tient aussi au glissement métaphorique et aux nombreux échanges entre l'architecture de l'information et le design de l'information dont il témoigne. Published in 2013, the 41 st thematic issue of Etudes de communication , focused on “Information architecture”, seems to take us back to a period when the term “information design” was still rarely used. The articles in this issue explain the emergence of the notion of information architecture since its inception by Richard Saul Wurman in 1976. Offering an account of the recent appropriation of this notion by the French scientific domain of Information and Communication sciences, the issue highlights the relations between information architecture, organizational complexity, knowledge organization and the professional world. The issue adds much to our understanding of digital editorialization and offers key insight into the metaphorical significance of the terms architecture and design .
