Résumé anglais Abstract. Two surveys in Libanon and Kerman (Iran) mountains show that, during the quaternary period, climate fluctuations have been much larger than in the footplains. Nevertheless there are no valuable evidences of glacial erosion, even in high Libanon where the snow cover was permanent, and large landslides have been, and are up to now, active on the slopes, in relationship with lithology faults, humidity. But frost and torrential activity in the mountains have influenced various kinds of erosion in the piedmonts and the footplains, such as the formation of ablation glacis, alluvial fans and terraces which could not be explained without the water and debris brought down from the mountain.
