Résumé. - Les contraintes de l'espace et de l'environnement en Arabie saoudite ne se limitent pas à l'aridité et aux distances entre les lieux. La structuration générale, l'organisation tripôlaire et l'existence d'axes de développement parallèles, à forte dimension historique, conditionnent également les choix d'aménagement. Etat jeune, le royaume, créé par une famille du Nejd, a été confronté dès les débuts de son existence au problème de l'intégration de régions bien distinctes, au particularisme marqué. La stratégie spatiale conçue par les experts a entériné des choix politiques de sédentarisation et de concentration, mais les propositions qui tendaient à organiser le territoire national selon les principes de sa structuration en profondeur n'ont pas été retenues. Le pouvoir politique s'attache d'abord à préserver une cohésion et des intérêts qu'il estime menacés par les dynamiques spatiales recommandées par cette stratégie. Source : Éditeur (via Persée) |

Abstract. - In Saudi Arabia, the spatial and environmental constraints go far beyond aridity and distances. The territorial planning is also depending on the general structuration, the tripolarity and the parallel development corridors. A young state, created by a family that originates from the Nejd, the kingdom was confronted at its beginning with the problem of integrating different regions with very strong particularities. The spatial strategy, elaborated by experts, has ratified the political choices of sedentarisation and concentration. But its proposals, which seemed to organise the territory through its basic structuration, where not followed . The political power is paying more attention to preserve the cohesion and its own interests, which he thinks are threatened by the spatial dynamics recommanded by this strategy.
