En 2006, Hérodote publiait Amérique latine : nouvelle géopolitique. Nouvelle, parce qu'au libéralisme triomphant des années 1990 succédait une période favorable aux gouvernements de gauche avec des chefs d'État tels que Hugo Chávez au Venezuela, Michelle Bachelet au Chili, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva au Brésil, Evo Morales en Bolivie... C'est alors le temps du retour de l'État, du nationalisme économique. Toutefois, Hérodote restait plutôt circonspect, ce que la situation actuelle tend à justifier. In 2006, Hérodote published Latin America : the new geopolitics. Indeed it was new, for after the triumphant liberalism of the 90's, we could observe a period where governments from the left were particularly popular : Hugo Chávez in Venezuela, Michelle Bachelet in Chile, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brazil, Evo Morales in Bolivia...
