Salvatore Morelli a été député de 1867 à 1880. Il a représenté au parlement les positions mazziniennes et celles de la Libre Pensée. Il soutenait qu'il fallait être particulièrement attentif à trois questions : l'émancipation de la femme, l'éducation des jeunes aux nouvelles valeurs et la délimitation du rôle de l'Église. Son long combat pour donner de la dignité aux femmes fut fondamental car, selon lui, le changement de condition de la femme dans la société italienne était le point de départ nécessaire à toute rénovation profonde. Salvatore Morelli was a MP in the Chamber of Representatives from 1867 to 1880. In Parliament, he represented the Mazzinian ideas and those of free thought. He held that they had to pay attention to three issues: the emancipation of women, the introduction of new values into the younger generation's education and the reduction of the power of the church in politics. His fight for the dignity of women was fundamental, as, according to him, the change in the role of women in Italian society was the starting point of all radical reforms.
