Le premier historique officiel de la garde républicaine contribue à créer une identité sociale. Occultant toute analogie avec la police, mais mêlant plusieurs stéréotypes, il construit une spécificité. L'image de la garde apparaît également bien différente de celle de la gendarmerie des pandores. Producteur et produit de représentations, ce manuscrit propose une image sanctifiée et rémanente. Icône et polaroïd, hagiographie et martyrologe, cet historique est également un autoportrait qui va figer l'image de ce corps telle qu'il voudrait être. Discours à usage interne, reflet d'une époque, ce témoignage partisan aide à appréhender les représentations que la garde se fait d'elle-même. Quelles que soient l'étendue de son public et son influence sur celui-ci, ce plaidoyer pro domo constitue une défense de son image contre les représentations exogènes. The first official tracing of history of the republican guard contributes to create a social identity. While obscuring any analogy with the police, but mixing several stereotypes, it builds specificity. The image of the guard is also quite different from the one of the Gendarmerie of policemen. Producer and product of representations, that manuscript offers a sanctified and persistent image. Icon and Polaroid, hagiography and martyrdom-report, that history is also a self-portrait, freezing the image of that force as it wishes it to look like. A story telling for internal use, a reflection of an era, this biased testimony helps to comprehend the representations the guard makes of itself. However large its audience and influence on it might be, that pro domo plea is a protection of its image against outside representations.
