| Résumé anglais | For a history of twinned cities and towns, Cécile Chombard-Gaudin. Poorly known and little studied, the city twinning movement gradually extended to regions, appeared in the afternmath of the Second World War to promote the bringing together of common people. It goes well beyond the somewhat folklore image to which it is sometimes reduced. Its political dimension raised great tensions, especially during the Cold War. Retracing the main Unes of its development, the author encou- rages reflection and suggests research lines for a history that remains to be written. | |
