L'encyclique Laudato si', publiée par le pape François en juin 2015, fait figure de nouveauté à la fois dans l'Église catholique et dans la sphère politique. De fait, la proposition d'une « écologie intégrale » qui soit à la fois sociale et environnementale, politique, culturelle et spirituelle, est originale. Cet article entend revenir sur la généalogie conceptuelle de ce texte qui a fait date. Premièrement, bien que l'ancrage théorique dans la tradition catholique soit fort, l'utilisation choisie des textes saints et des courants théologiques oriente le propos. Deuxièmement, l'influence de certains courants de sciences sociales et de militance écologique est forte. Le pape en utilise le cadre d'analyse, et les oriente vers une fin qui est spécifique au christianisme : le Salut (la rédemption) du monde. The encyclical Laudato Si', published by Pope Francis in June 2015, is a new feature both in the Catholic Church and in the political sphere. Indeed, the proposal of an “integral ecology” that is at the same time social and environmental, political, cultural and spiritual, is original. This article aims to revisit the conceptual genealogy of this landmark text. First, although the theoretical anchoring in the Catholic tradition is strong, the chosen use of holy texts and theological currents guides the statement. Second, the influence of certain social sciences and ecological militant currents is strong. The Pope uses their framework of analysis, and directs them towards an end that is specific to Christianity: the salvation (redemption) of the world.
