A Contribution to the Lexico-semantic Study of Colour Terms in Russian and in French
The aim of the study is to analyse, through the colour names found in a set corpus (fashion magazines in Russian and in French from 1998 to 2004), the naming process in relation with colours as a set of multilateral linguistic phenomena, to establish links between linguistic and extra-linguistic factors including the pragmatic nature of the Russian and French texts under study.
For this purpose, a study has been carried out into the methodology of the linguistics of colours and into the definition of the main notions in this field; the various models of chromatic terms in Russian and French have been comparatively analysed; the correlations between the évolution of the vocabulary of colours and social phenomena have been examined; and, on the basis of a comparative study of the content of chromatic terms in Russian and in French, some problems connected with the translation of chromatic terms have been raised.
