Depuis la première aliya de 1881-1882,
plus de trois millions de Juifs ont rejoint le
foyer national, le Yishouv, puis l'État d'Israël
souverain. Mais l'immigration juive vers l'espace biblique d'Eretz Israël ne procède pas
seulement d'un phénomène démographique
ou social, constituant bien davantage encore
la centralité du projet de construction de la
nation juive, le sionisme. À telle enseigne
que des budgets faramineux ainsi que des
postures diplomatiques furent toujours
sacrifiés à l'aliya, y compris quand les nouveaux arrivants, les olim, ne correspondaient
plus au profil idéalisé des premiers temps
du sionisme, ashkénaze, laïc et travailliste.
Deux aliyot massives, celle des Marocains
très conservateurs et mal accueillis par l'élite
ashkénaze, puis celle des Russes anticommunistes, ont fait durablement évoluer le
curseur politique israélien vers la droite.
À court terme, le solde migratoire positif
conjugué à une natalité forte propulsera Israël
comme foyer de la majorité absolue des Juifs

Since the first aliya in 1881-1882, over
three million of Jews joined the Yishuv, the
settlement, and then the sovereign State of
Israel. But the Jewish immigration towards
the biblical space of Eretz Israel is not limited
to a demographic or social phenomenon as
it is, even more, the central feature of the
Jewish nation construction project, sionism.
So much so that astronomical budgets and
diplomatic positions have always been sacrificed to the aliya, including when the newcomers, the olim, were no longer reflecting the
idealized figure of the early times of sionism:
Ashkenazi, secular and labor. Two massive
aliyot contributed to push the Israeli political
cursor to the right: the Moroccans – very
conservative, they were not well accepted by
the Ashkenazi elite – and the anticommunist
Russians. Soon, the positive net migration
added to a strong birth rate will propel Israel
