Le changement de régime en Hongrie impliqua un refus global et systématique de la situation antérieure. La nouvelle orientation de la politique extérieure vise à : réintégrer le monde et, en tout premier lieu, l'Europe de l'Ouest ; s'écarter de la ligne de conduite définie par l'ex-Union soviétique ; affirmer l'importance de l'intérêt national. Elle comporte deux tendances principales : l'« européanisation » — qui a pour but l'intégration politique et économique dans l'Europe — et la « renationalisation » — qui a pour priorité la souveraineté nationale. Au cours de la crise yougoslave, la politique extérieure hongroise s'est appuyée principalement sur le courant interne pro-européen ; elle a su concilier l'affirmation de ses intérêts nationaux et son alignement sur l'Europe. The Aspirations and Dilemnas of the Hungarian Foreign Poiicy vis-à-vis the Yugoslav Crisis, by Laszlo Poti
The change of regime in Hungary meant a comprehensive and consistant negation of the previous situation. The new directions in the foreign policy are : the reintegration to the world, first of all, to Western Europe ; the deorientation from the Soviet line ; the assertion of the national interest. This policy includes two main trends : Europeanization ― which aims at the political and economic integration to Europe ― and renationalization ― which considers national sovereignty as priority n° 1. The main guideline for Hungary's foreign policy during the Yougoslav crisis has been its strop Europeanization inner current.
