On l'a dit, l'habit ne fait pas le moine, ni le bonnet le docteur, ni la barbe le philosophe, ni la robe le magistrat. Mais s'il en va bien ainsi, c'est à l'exception de celui-ci. Après avoir distingué son statut de sa fonction et de son rôle et avoir ressaisi les sens du vêtement en général, on s'attachera à éclairer l'essence de sa robe en particulier, signe certes, mais moins indice, signal ou symbole qu'allégorie au final. As has been said, the habit does not make the monk, nor the hat the doctor, nor the beard the philosopher, nor the dress the magistrate. But if it is so, it is with the exception of this one. After having distinguished its status from its function and role and having re-examined the senses of the garment in general, we will endeavour to illuminate the essence of its dress in particular, certainly a sign, but less an indication, a signal or a symbol than an allegory in the end.
