Les références au sacré et à Dieu sont omniprésentes dans les discours sur les techniques. L'invocation du divin, de l'immortalité et de la transcendance est censée apporter un supplément d'âme à la prolifération des innovations technicistes. La Silicon Valley est portée par une « idéologie technico-mystique » héritière de la cybernétique et revivifiée par le New Age. L'anthropologie souligne le lien entre le symbolique et la technicité pour définir le rapport d'extériorité et d'objectivation de l'homme au monde. Toutefois la technique ne peut pas symboliser, mais elle ne va pas sans récit, sans imaginaire et sans fictions. La technique est biface : fonctionnelle et fictionnelle. Si la technique ne peut symboliser, elle n'est donc pas « instituante » comme l'a montré Lucien Sfez. Elle ne peut instituer, mais l'institution entrepreneuriale qui la met en œuvre, elle, le peut. References to the sacred and to God are omnipresent in the discourses on techniques. The invocation of the divine, immortality and transcendence is supposed to bring more soul to the proliferation of technological innovations. Silicon Valley is driven by a "technical-mystical ideology" that inherited cybernetics and was revived by the New Age. Anthropology underlines the link between symbolism and technicality to define man's relationship of exteriority and objectification to the world. However, technology cannot symbolize, but it cannot go without a narrative, without imagination and without fictions. The technique is functional and fictional on both sides. If technology cannot symbolize, it is not "instituent" as Lucien Sfez has shown. It cannot institute, but the entrepreneurial institution that implements it can.
