Lorsque surviennent les pertes en opérations, le retour de mission des soldats prend une dimension littéralement extraordinaire. Confronté à la mort de plusieurs de ses hommes et à des blessés graves du fait d'une attaque subie en Afghanistan le 20 janvier 2012, le 93e régiment d'artillerie de montagne (ram) a fourni dans l'urgence puis dans la durée un soutien aux familles endeuillées, aux blessés physiques et psychiques et à leurs proches, tout en maintenant un élan opérationnel qui repose en grande partie sur le soin apporté aux conditions de retour de mission des soldats. Dans ce contexte douloureux, il a pu mesurer le rôle crucial joué par son organisation sociale régimentaire, bien structurée et solide, gage d'un esprit de corps élargi aux familles et indispensable dans l'adversité. Si cette préparation en amont de la crise permet de mieux la surmonter, elle garantit également une bonne réinsertion post opérationnelle des soldats, processus long et complexe qui requiert une vigilance toute particulière de la part du commandement et dans lequel l'expression de la reconnaissance collective a une importance certaine. Éventualité à laquelle le chef de corps d'un régiment doit se préparer lui-même, la traversée de telles épreuves souligne la dimension humaine essentielle de ses responsabilités. When losses occur in the course of operations, the return of soldiers from a mission has aspects that are literally extra-ordinary. Following the deaths of a number of the men, and cases of serious injuries through an attack suffered in Afghanistan on 20January 2012, the 93rd Mountain Artillery Regiment provided support to the grieving families, first as an emergency measure and then for an indefinite period. It gave comparable support to those who were injured physically and/or psychologically, and to their friends and family, while maintaining an operational readiness relying to a great extent on the care provided for the soldiers returning from a mission. In these painful situations, the regiment was able to judge the crucial role played by its well-structured and robust social organisation, testifying to an extended esprit de corps provided to the families, which is essential when faced with adversity. While anticipation of the crisis made overcoming the problems easier, it also ensured good post-operational deployment of the soldiers, which tends to be a long and complex process requiring particular vigilance from the higher command, and the expression of collective recognition being rather important. A regiment's commanding officer must himself prepare for this eventuality, going through such ordeals which emphasise the human dimension that is fundamental to his responsibilities.
