Qu'est-ce que la patrie ? Il existe à l'évidence une divergence de perception de cette notion entre la société civile et le monde militaire. Si, pour la première, la patrie apparaît comme une variable liée aux fluctuations du sentiment national dans un environnement changeant, elle constitue pour le second une permanence intimement liée à un fonctionnement spécifique. La patrie est consubstantielle à l'état militaire. Le croisement proposé ici entre une approche historique, soulignant l'évolution de cette notion au cours du temps, et un regard militaire, qui intègre au contraire la patrie comme une constante, permet probablement de mieux comprendre les limites et le potentiel de ce concept renaissant. What is Country? There is obviously divergence in the perception of this notion between civil society and the military. For the former, Country appears as a variable related to fluctuating trends in national sentiment in a changing environment, for the latter it constitutes a permanent entity intimately linked to a specific function. Country is consubstantial to the military state. The combination proposed in this article between an historical approach, focusing on how this notion has evolved in the course of time, and a military point of view which, on the contrary, integrates Country as a constant, may help us to understand the limits and the potential of this re-emerging concept.
