Frantz Fanon, médecin, philosophe et militant politique, est né français et mort algérien. Patriote ardent, Antillais d'origine, il s'engagea à dix-huit ans dans les Forces françaises libres. Mais durant la guerre, il fit l'expérience du racisme ordinaire des Français de métropole. Amer, il dénonça les mensonges qui l'avaient jeté dans cette aventure. Il s'engagea ensuite dans une œuvre de réflexion puis de lutte militante pour établir les bases d'une fraternité qui dépassât les différences ethniques et culturelles. Frantz Fanon, doctor, philosopher and political militant was born French and died Algerian. An ardent patriot, originally from the French West Indies, he joined the Free French forces at the age of eighteen. During the war, however, he encountered the everyday racism of the mainland French. He bitterly denounced the lies that had drawn him into this situation. He went on to study and then actively campaign to establish the bases of a fraternity that would transcend ethnic and cultural differences.
