Les appels à l'innovation et l'audace scandent régulièrement le discours stratégique au point d'apparaître comme de véritables leitmotiv. Le domaine militaire ne fait pas exception, l'union de la première avec la seconde étant présentée comme l'une des réponses les plus pertinentes à la complexité du monde contemporain. Pourtant, les champs d'exploration empruntés par la recherche opérationnelle sont bien classiques. L'audace véritable réside dans la sollicitation d'univers au premier abord totalement étrangers aux affaires militaires. À cet égard, l'art recèle d'incontestables ressources, non seulement pour nourrir l'innovation technique militaire, mais aussi pour affermir la connaissance et la compréhension de cet autre qu'est l'ennemi. Appeals for innovation and audacity are regularly heard in all forms of strategic discourse, to the point where they can appear to be leitmotifs. The military domain is no exception, and the union of innovation and audacity is presented as one of the most appropriate responses to the complexity of the modern world. However, the fields of exploration ploughed by operational research remain entirely classical. True audacity lies in appealing to universes that at first sight seem totally foreign to military affairs. In this respect, art has indisputable resources, not only for nourishing technical military innovation but also for reinforcing the knowledge and understanding of the “other”, in other words the enemy.
