Monument de la filmographie de guerre en France, La 317e Section de Pierre Schoendoerffer continue de fasciner les soldats français plus de cinquante ans après sa sortie au cinéma. Cet article se propose d'étudier les raisons de ce succès durable, et en identifie trois principales : d'abord, le film est un magnifique objet de cinéma, ensuite, il est caractéristique d'une certaine culture militaire fondamentalement française et, enfin, il offre à un jeune officier ou futur officier une perspective paradoxalement rassurante des grands défis auxquels il pourra être amené à faire face une fois sorti d'école. As a monument of French war films, La 317e Section (The 31th Platoon) by Pierre Schoendoerffer continues to fascinate French soldiers, more than fifty years after it first came out on the big screen. This article aims to study the reasons behind this enduring success and identifies three key factors: first, the film is a magnificent work of cinema; second, it is characteristic of a specific and fundamentally French military culture, and, finally, it offers a young officer or future officer a paradoxically reassuring prospect of the major challenges that he may have to face after leaving military school.
