Résumé anglais The author examines the obligation to state reasons for administrative decisions in the Italian legal system, starting with the reconstruction of the four “theoretical models” which influenced its development between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The paper then analyses the legal framework for the statement of reasons introduced by law no. 241/1990 (the Italian Administrative Procedure Act). Finally, the author examines the issues concerning the scope of application of the obligation to state reasons for administrative decision, as well as the defects affecting measures with no statement of reasons or an insufficient statement of reasons.
