Résumé anglais Summary. — The upper valley of rio Elqui (Central Chili, province of La Serena, latitude 30° S) was englaciated on Quaternary only in its upstream part, but two local glaciers (La Laguna and Allende) obstructed its talweg during maximum extension (Riss). Wiirmian and late glacial forms are similar to rock-glaciers of dry mountains. The weakness of present running accounts for the good conservation of quaternary moraines. Their spatial contraction between downstream rissian deposits and upstream residual glaciers leave doubts about Riss- Wiinn interglacial age reality. Therefore, although north-american qua- ternarists tendancy would be to divide the only Wiirm in many stages, alpine terminology may be retained to define precisely internal or external position of main vallums. Key-words : aridity, obturation, glacial age and glacial forms, Riss, Wiirm.
