Summary. — In Monêtier-les-Bains and Villar d'Arène, similar traditions have led to a similar use of mountain pastures, both by hikers and local cattle and sheep in increasing number. But winter sports are more developed in Monêtier-les-Bains, because of a more suitable natural potential. Thence, tourism affects transhumance in many ways that are unknown yet in Villar d'Arène.
