La sociologie de la famille reste encore multiforme et c'est sans doute bien ainsi. L'unanimité ne s'est pas faite sur les ressorts profonds qui animent l'évolution rapide de la structure et les modifications internes au groupe conjugal ou parental. Plusieurs hypothèses sociologiques préalables à toute investigation coexistent en sociologie de la famille. Elles privilégient soit le primat des équilibres consensuels internes à la famille, soit celui des échanges dynamiques entre famille et hiérarchies sociales. Dans le premier cas, c'est la négociation entre individus qui modifie les rapports de la vie familiale et dans le second, ce sont les rapports sociaux qui sont en jeu. Les conditions socio-économiques et culturelles sont inséparables de l'attribution des rôles et des attributs familiaux. Plus qu'une autre discipline, la sociologie de la famille est sensible à la pression des politiques sociales qui visent à influer sur l'évolution des attitudes individuelles et collectives. The family in research
The sociology of the family remains multiform and this is no doubt all to the good. There is not unanimity on what are the underlying factors that provoke the rapid evolution of the structure and the internal modifications of the conjugal or parental group. Several sociological hypotheses previous any study coexist within the sociology of the family. Either they place more emphasis on the primacy of a consensual equilibrium within the family, or on the primacy of the dynamic exchange between family and social hierarchy. In the first case, it is the negotiation between individuals that modifies family relations ; in the second it is social relations that are active. Socio-economic and cultural conditions are inseparable from the allocation of role and family attributes. More than any other discipline, the sociology of the family is sensitive to the pressure of social policies that aim to influence the evolution of individual and collective attitudes.
