Le genre s'exprime au quotidien à travers des interactions qui peuvent paraître anodines, comme celle de prendre le tramway et d'y rencontrer d'autres passagers et passagères. L'observation ethnographique de l'espace public a été fortement développée dans la perspective interactionniste, toutefois le rôle que jouent les objets en présence dans la structuration de l'action et la façon dont ils prennent part à la production d'une scénographie genrée de l'espace a été peu traitée comme telle en sociologie. Si les féministes matérialistes se sont intéressées à la matière, et plus précisément aux rapports matériels amenant à des rapports asymétriques entre femmes et hommes, leur perspective structuraliste a cependant partiellement occulté la question de la dynamique interactionnelle. Cet article propose de s'intéresser à cette dimension matérielle des interactions genrées à partir d'observations faites dans un transport public et ainsi de montrer l'apport que peut avoir une attention soutenue aux objets et à la ‘physicalité' de l'espace pour la compréhension et l'analyse des interactions genrées du quotidien. Gender is expressed in daily life through interactions which may seem anecdotal, like that of taking a tram and coming across other passengers, both male and female. The ethnographic observation of the public space has been developed in the interactionist perspective, and yet the role played by objects in the structuring of action and the way in which they participate in the production of a gendered scenography of space has not been explored so far. While materialist feminists have taken an interest in material conditions, and more precisely in material relationships leading to asymmetrical relationships between women and men, their structuralist perspective has however partially obscured the issue of interactional dynamics. This article sets itself the task of examining this material dimension of gendered interactions based on observations made in public transport, and, through this, of showing the contribution that can be made when observing closely objects and the ‘physicality' of space in order to understand and analyse the gendered interactions of daily life.
