Central Asia: civil society under debate.
The article studies the recent issue of exporting the concept of civil society to Central Asia and, in particular, the role played by NGOs working in the region. It examines the relationship between the western paradigm of civil society and existing
societies and analyses the main theories which exist on this subject. It ends with a
description of the interaction between humanitarian aid and the civil society in
