| Résumé |
La forte augmentation du nombre de migrants et de réfugiés arrivés en Europe en 2015 a encouragé une mobilisation politique pro-migratoire au Royaume-Uni, y compris dans des régions rurales. Cet article souligne l'importance d'incorporer les mouvements ruraux « sanctuaires » aux analyses des mobilisations pro-migration, ces dernières demeurant en grande partie urbano-centrées. Cet article analyse les raisons de la croissance de ces mouvements ruraux « sanctuaires » ainsi que les manières dont les spécificités des communautés rurales déterminent leurs configurations sociales et leurs réseaux internes. Enfin, cet article contribue aux réflexions académiques sur les liens entre ruralité, migration et militantisme. Il révèle ainsi que les communautés rurales offrent des opportunités uniques pour répondre aux problèmes sociaux rencontrés par les migrants, tels que l'exclusion et les préjudices. The steep rise in the number of migrants and refugees arriving in Europe in 2015 prompted widespread pro-migrant political mobilisation in the UK, including in rural areas. This article argues that more account should be taken of rural sanctuary movements in academic and popular understandings of pro-migrant activism, which remain largely urban-centric. It examines why the growth of rural sanctuary movements is significant, identifies how the distinctive qualities of rural communities shape the configuration of social relationships and networks within them, and contributes to scholarship on the nexus between rurality, migration and activism. In so doing, the article demonstrates the unique opportunities that rural communities offer to address social issues such as migrant exclusion and disadvantage. Source : Éditeur (via Cairn.info) |
