En Belgique, le secteur de l'alphabétisation s'est construit sur deux voies : l'une francophone, l'autre néerlandophone. Rarement elles se sont croisées. Le présent article tente, sur le format de la double interview, un croisement de regards entre nord et sud de la Belgique en invitant une pionnière francophone, Catherine Stercq et un pionnier néerlandophone, Marc Timmerman, à dialoguer ensemble autour des temps forts de leurs chantiers respectifs. Les deux militants évoquent chacun la genèse des actions d'alphabétisation, l'évolution des publics au cours du temps, les inégalités d'accès à la formation et la stigmatisation des illettrés. In Belgium the secto concerned with eliminating illiteracy has divided along two paths, one French-speaking and the other Dutch-speaking. They have rarely crossed. This article attempts in the form of a double interview to exchange views between the north and south of Belgium by inviting a French-speaking pioneer, Catherine Stercq, and a Dutch-speaking pioneer, Marc Timmerman, to dialogue together about the high points of their respective projects. These two militants recall the origins of their action to tackle illiteracy, the changes in the groups involved in the course of time, inequalities of access to education and the stigmatising of the illiterate.
