	Résumé	Récit singulier d'un « embarquement pluriel » effectué à bord d'une expédition transocéanique militante, cet article tente de décrire certaines limites liées à la multiplication des engagements institutionnels et affectifs dans le travail d'enquête et d'écriture. Entre recherche de financement, accès au terrain et intégration au monde académique, le jeune chercheur doit souvent « jouer » avec les formes diverses et parfois contradictoires de l'embarquement. C'est pourtant en considérant qu'il demeure toujours un espace laissé vacant, au cœur de cette juxtaposition des engagements, qu'il devient possible de réaliser un nécessaire « pas de côté », lieu d'un recul, qui ne saurait pour autant être celui d'un quelconque « surplomb ». 	Résumé anglais	A story of a “plural embedment”: or how to find an outside, inside. This article is the singular narrative of a “plural embedment” that has taken place aboard a transoceanic expedition. It depicts some practical limits that can appear through the multiplication of institutional engagements or other affective involvements, in the learning of the work of research. Seeking funds, finding solutions to carry out a field survey or trying to integrate into the academic world, the “squeezed” young researcher has often to “play” with these multiple and contradictory forms of being embedded. It's though in juxtaposing these involvements that the embedded researcher can find a way to make some free space, to take a necessary “step to the side”, a kind of detachment, that is not necessarily a position of “control from above”.
