Depuis 2005, le terme de cohousing est rentré dans le débat italien pour désigner des initiatives non conventionnelles d'habitat. Que recouvre-t-il ? Et pourquoi est-il employé en Italie ? Ce phénomène est-il comparable aux expériences d'habitat alternatif qui ont vu et voient actuellement le jour en France et ailleurs dans le monde ?Cet article se propose de s'attaquer à la spécificité de l'émergence et du développement du cohabitat en Italie, en pointant les éléments de continuité avec la tradition ainsi que les aspects « innovants ». Afin de saisir pleinement ce phénomène, il est nécessaire d'en connaître les acteurs, leurs motivations ainsi que les débats qui ont contribué à son essor. Since 2005 the term cohousing has become part of the Italian debate on non-conventional dwelling initiatives. What types of initiative does the term cover? And why is it used in Italy? Can this phenomenon be compared with alternative living environments that have emerged and are emerging in France and elsewhere?The aim of this article is to examine the specificity of the emergence and development of cohousing in Italy, by identifying which aspects are in keeping with tradition and which are “innovative”. In order to fully understand this phenomenon, it is necessary to identify the actors involved and their motivations, as well as the debates that have contributed to the movement's rise.
