Au mois de mai 2020, la Cinémathèque de Toulouse proposait une programmation thématique consacrée aux sorcières, figure historique, personnage populaire et entité de la subversion. La structure Cinémathèque, associée à une mission de conservation mais aussi de diffusion du patrimoine cinématographique, est étroitement liée à la pratique du re-visionnage. Au sein de cet organisme, le programmateur a la charge délicate de prévoir le « revoir ». Les choix de programmation suggèrent une expérience intime du « revoir » et une anticipation des réactions qu'il peut susciter chez le spectateur contemporain. Par le biais d'entretiens avec l'équipe de programmation de la Cinémathèque de Toulouse, cet article questionne une praxis du « revoir » en suivant l'histoire génétique de la thématique « Sorcières ! ». In May 2020, the Cinémathèque de Toulouse offered a thematic program about witches as historic figures, popular characters and entities of subversion. The Cinémathèque structure, which has a role in the conservation as well as in the distribution of the cinematographic heritage, is as such closely linked to the experience of reiterated viewing. Within this organization, the scheduler has the delicate task of implementing this experience of watching anew. His choices concerning the movie programme tend to induce an intimate experience of reiterated viewing and rely on his anticipation of the reactions he can spark within the contemporary viewer. Through interviews with the scheduling team at the Cinémathèque de Toulouse, this article questions the praxis of watching anew, by following the genetic path of the “Witches!” thematic.
