L'immigration illégale a suscité un vif débat aux États-Unis. Les Mexicains constituent désormais le premier groupe ethnique dans la nouvelle vague d'immigrants et, avec le reste des Hispaniques, affecte le mode vie américain à travers sa capacité de mobilisation et d'engagement politique. La migration est un sujet sensible dans les deux pays. Dans le contexte de la guerre contre la terreur et des craintes sur l'identité nationale américaine, les positions extrêmes qui criminalisent les illégaux et poussent à l'édification d'un mur le long de la frontière, tendent à trouver un point d'équilibre. The subject of undocumented migration has produced national alarm in the United States. Mexicans now constitute the largest ethnic group in the newest wave of migrants, and together with the rest of the “Latino” population, have impacted the American lifestyle, displaying the ability to mobilize, and occupy political positions in different levels of government. The subject of migration is part of the national agenda in both countries. In the context of the war against terrorism, and the fear of threats to the American national identity, the extreme positions that criminalize undocumented migration and propose the construction of walls along the border tend to find a balance point.
