L'article analyse le départ en colonie de vacances du point de vue de la mobilité spatiale extraordinaire qu'il produit, en ce qu'il entraîne une rupture avec le cadre urbain, normatif et relationnel habituel des jeunes. Quelle est l'incidence socialisatrice de cette mobilité spatiale sur des adolescents de banlieues populaires qui se retrouvent à arpenter la campagne française, le temps des vacances ? L'article montre que ces vacances encadrées constituent à la fois une épreuve et des ressources de la mobilité. La présence du groupe composé d'adolescents et d'animateurs – qui partagent des normes, des codes et des références culturelles communs – institue et médiatise la confrontation à l'altérité sociale, spatiale et raciale. The article analyses French summer camps for schoolchildren from the point of view of the extraordinary spatial mobility it produces, in that it institutes a break with the usual urban, normative and relational framework in which the young people operate. What is the impact of this spatial mobility on the socialisation of teenagers from working-class suburbs who find themselves criss-crossing the French countryside at holiday times? The article shows that these managed vacations constitute both an ordeal and resources mobility. The presence of the group of adolescents and leaders—who share the same norms, codes and cultural references—institutes and mediates the confrontation with social, spatial and racial alterity.
