Design appeared at the turn of the industrial revolutions as a breakthrough in the dominant idea of industrialisation, and in recent years has been given a multitude of labels: “ecodesign”, “social design”, “ethical design”, “inclusive design”, etc. One might therefore wonder whether this trend does not highlight a difficulty in understanding what is problematic about design-as-design: having perhaps lost its subversive force, is it now perfectly integrated into the productive forces?
