Dans les sciences de l'environnement, les recherches participatives conduites en partenariat avec des groupes socioprofessionnels peuvent répondre à des objectifs très différents. Les fondements sur lesquels ces recherches s'adossent, et notamment les partis pris épistémologiques et politiques propres aux chercheurs et chercheuses, à leurs partenaires et aux organismes de financement, déterminent le cadrage des espaces participatifs auxquels les parties prenantes sont ensuite conviées. Pourquoi faire participer, qui faire participer ? Quels savoirs mobiliser et/ou construire ? Dans une perspective de sociologie des sciences, cet article porte un regard réflexif sur un projet de recherche participative, en s'intéressant à sa genèse et en prenant les scientifiques et partenaires pilotes du projet comme objets de recherche. L'analyse met en évidence les opérations de (re)cadrage des termes du débat et des espaces participatifs. Elle montre également l'intérêt d'introduire un processus réflexif de la part des scientifiques qui interviennent sur le cours de l'action, dans un processus de co-ingénierie de la participation. In the environmental sciences, participatory research, conducted in partnership with socio-professional actors, can meet very different objectives. The foundations on which this research is based, and in particular the epistemological and political biases of the researchers, their partners, and the funders, determine the framework of the participatory spaces to which the stakeholders are then invited. Why should people participate, and who should participate? What knowledge should be mobilized and/or constructed? From a sociology of science perspective, this article takes a reflective look at a participatory research project, looking at its genesis and taking the researchers and partner actors piloting the project as the objects of research and the actors investigated. The analysis highlights the operations of (re)framing the terms of the debate and the participatory spaces. It also shows the interest of introducing a reflexive process on the part of the researcher who intervenes in the course of the action, in a process of co-engineering of participation.
