L'écologie politique peut-elle être anthropocentrée sur le plan pratique, c'est-à-dire ne reconnaître de valeur qu'au sujet humain et non à tout être vivant ? C'est la position d'André Gorz, qu'il justifie par son existentialisme matérialiste marxiste, qui se déploie sur le plan anthropologique et métaéthique. Le sujet humain évolue dans un monde antinaturel, culturel de part en part, et fonde les normes qu'il attribue ensuite à ce qui l'entoure. Il ne valorise pas alors une « nature » mais son « milieu de vie », situation matérielle toujours singulière, qu'il défend, dans une perspective d'émancipation, face aux forces capitalistes et technocratiques qui tentent de se l'approprier. Can political ecology be anthropocentric on a practical level, i.e. only recognise the value of the human subject and not of any living being? That is André Gorz's position, justified by his Marxist materialist existentialism, which extends to the anthropological and metaethical level. The human subject evolves in an antinatural world, i.e. cultural, and creates the norms that he then attributes to what surrounds him. He does not value a “nature” but his “living environment”, a material situation that is always singular, which he defends, in a perspective of emancipation, against the capitalist and technocratic forces trying to appropriate it.
