Pour les cinéastes français qui œuvrent sur la marge du secteur cinématographique, le financement participatif (ou crowdfunding) a souvent été envisagé comme une solution permettant de combler un déficit de moyens. Pour les jeunes impétrants, il a parfois été considéré comme une nouvelle voie d'accès au circuit « traditionnel ». Cet article analyse les conséquences du crowdfunding sur l'organisation du travail artistique, en interrogeant la manière dont il favorise le maintien des acteurs à des positions marginales. L'enquête repose sur 20 entretiens, menés avec des réalisateurs et porteurs de projets, publiés entre 2010 et 2019, visant le financement de long-métrage de fiction. En décrivant concrètement les effets du crowdfunding sur l'activité artistique, ce travail met notamment à jour un phénomène qui associe un mécanisme de désavantages cumulatifs à des coûts d'opportunité importants. For French filmmakers working on the fringes of the film industry, crowdfunding has often been seen as a solution to a lack of resources. Young filmmakers have sometimes considered it as a new route into the ‘traditional' circuit. This article analyses the impact of crowdfunding on the organization of artistic work, looking at the way in which it helps to keep players in marginal positions. The study is based on 20 interviews with directors and promoters of projects published between 2010 and 2019, aimed at financing feature-length fiction films. By describing the actual effects of crowdfunding on artistic activity, this work highlights a phenomenon that combines a mechanism of cumulative disadvantages with significant opportunity costs.
