Résumé anglais The worlds of Ideology and Dream overlap permanently, more substantially than in Europe, in the American mind. Today, within the frame of a mass ideology, the world of Dream (in which imagination and fancy are combined) constantly introduces into the representations of reality numerous myths that become falsifying agents, and produce, with the support of mass media, pseudo events, vicarious experiences, diversified forms of alienation. After the period 1960-1974, in which debunking and dissent were commonplace, advertising and TV especially, endeavour now to recreate a new consensus, by developing a form of ideology in which conflicts have been eliminated : some of their ways of functionning are described here.
