Quelle est la place exacte de « l'Institut » dans cette migration intellectuelle à l'impact énorme sur la pensée américaine après 1933 ? A quoi tiennent ses limites apparentes ? Tracing the circumstances of the long exile of German Jewish and neo-Marxist intellectuals fleeing the rise of Nazism, this article tries to give a first answer to the questions put by Martin Jay in his Dialectical Imagination. What is the exact place of the « Institute » in the intellectual migration which had an enormous impact on American thought after 1933 ? To what can we attribute its apparent limitations ?
