Comme les contes de Poe analysés par Bernard Marcadé selon la notion d'Unheimliche, l'espace récréatif dans les parcs d'attraction américains est à la fois décor et structure : il transforme la réalité en spectacle. Et il y a quelque chose de terrifiant dans la prophétie de Disney selon laquelle Disneyland ne sera jamais achevé tant qu'il y aura du « fantastique » chez l'homme. Car non seulement les parcs récréatifs n'ont pas de centre, mais le monde en a trouvé un : c'est le parc récréatif, qui, pour donner un centre au monde, doit coïncider avec le monde lui-même. Like Foe's tales as analysed by Bernard Marcadé in terms of the Unheimliche, the «space of entertainment» in American amusement parks is both « decor » and « structure » ; it transforms reality into a show. And there may be something unwittingly terrifying in Disney's prophecy that Disneyland will never be completed as long as fantasy is alive in man ; not only do amusement varks not have a center, but the world has unfortunately found one : an amusement park which, in order to provide the world with a center, has to coincide with the world itself.
