Résumé anglais The Spanish Civil War constituted one of the major focuses of political commitment for American writers in the 1930s. Similar to overall American public opinion, American writers strongly leaned toward the Republican side in the conflict. They supported the loyalists through a variety of activities, in Spain as well as the US, and through their writings, fictional and non-fictional. In their relation to the war they adopted a number of different social and political stances.
